Melo Movie Released on Valentine’s Day

This Korean drama was released on February 14, 2025, on Netflix. It is a 10-episode-long drama, with each episode being approximately one hour long.

From the trailer, you might have concluded that it’s going to be a heartfelt romantic drama, which it actually is—but with a little twist. For me, the story wasn’t that great. It is comforting but too long. It would have been much better to make an actual Melo Movie instead of a drama, just gets boring after a while. The realistic relationship is appreciated, but a drama is what we imagine things to be like, not what they actually are. It felt super sad, yet I didn’t cry. It felt super flirty and romantic, yet I did not get those butterflies in my stomach.

Honestly, the chemistry was missing. The music was okay but not that great. The story felt lengthy and boring. In some scenes, it felt like I was watching the previous scene again. They really should have worked better on the story.

When you see two of the most talented actors starring in a drama, you automatically want to watch it, but it did not do justice to them. After watching Parasite and Strong Girl Bong-Soon, starring Choi Woo-Shik and Park Bo-Young, respectively, you expect much more from these well-known and talented actors.

Plot Summary

Ko Gyeom (Choi Woo-Shik) is a movie critic who finds comfort in films. One day, he meets Kim Mu-Bee (Park Bo-Young), an aspiring film director with a tough past. They fall in love, but life pulls them apart. Years later, they cross paths again, still stuck in the past, still holding onto feelings they never truly expressed. As they try to reconnect, they struggle with their emotions, miscommunication, and personal battles.

Is Melo Movie Comforting?

Yes! Melo Movie is super comforting as it is slow and depicts all emotions beautifully. There are two stories running at the same time—one of the leads and the other between Lee Jun-Young and Jeon So-Nee. Both of them are going through hardships. The leads are still stuck in the past. There is a communication gap between them, and they have no one to rely on, but they don’t seem dependent on each other either. And the second pair had a seven year long relationship which eventually came to an end for good.

Did the Chemistry Work?

Honestly, not really. The emotions weren’t conveyed deep enough, and the love felt distant to me. The communication was missing. They had feelings for each other, but it never truly felt like they were in love. I wanted to feel the pain, the longing, the romance—but it just wasn’t there. Even the flirty moments didn’t give me butterflies.

How Were the Visuals?

The visuals in Melo Movie were beautiful. The cinematography was clean, with warm tones and soft lighting that matched the mood of the drama. It felt aesthetically pleasing and added to the overall experience. The settings and camera work were well done, making it visually appealing throughout.

What Did I Learn from This Korean Drama?
